Notes for FRITZ KOEHN:
Fritz was a brother to Louise (Lizzie) Koehn, Kleibrink. When their widowed mother moved them to
Brenham, Texas, Fritz had to work for his room and board with farmers. He was eight when his mother
married Wilhelm Stegmann. At this time, I am not sure how old he was when he started working for his
room and board. He worked for the Lahrmann and Schleinamann families. At one time, the farm he
worked on was close to an "insane asylum". Fritz was left alone to tend the farm animals when the
family went on trips and the screaming from the asylum was terrifying to him. When Fritz was fourteen
years old, he was not with his mother, as stated in the 1900 census. His life was quite hard until he
was grown. When he went to work for Georg Beerwinkel life was easier. He continued to work for Mrs.
Beerwinkel, when Georg died. In 1908, Fritz and Melissa Ringener Beerwinkel married. Fritz loved
children and he and Melissa had four. Fritz Koehn was on the Church Council at the St. James
Lutheran Church at New Wehdem, Brenham, Texas. He and Melissa also donated land to the Church.
In later years, Fritz would drive to Waco, pick up Minnie (his sister) and her husband, Otto Dresner, and
drive up to Clifton to visit Fritz and Louise Gaskamp Kleibrink.

Minnie told her children stories of her life and some of those stories were of Saint Louis, Missouri. Her
daughter Alice said that her mother was four years old when her father, Theodor, died. But that her
mother remembered him telling stories of fighting hand to hand combat in Germany. She remembered
the tears on her father's face. Minnie told them about their family living in tall apartment buildings,
where the clothes line would hang across the alleys and they would reel their clothes in. She was glad
when they moved to Texas, because they could play on the ground. It was thought that Christian and
Sophie looked like Theodor and Minnie favored her mother.

Beverley was "the first Baby of the family". But she was always independent and took care of everyone. When
the four children were left alone 20 Min., to catch their ride to school, when Grandpa Humphries was in the
hospital, it was Beverley who told the big kids they should put the BB gun up. When it was time to buy
Devohn or Mama and Daddy a special present, it was Beverley that organized it. Beverley tried to protect
everyone, especially Anne and Devohn. After she finished high school and went to work at a bank, she got up
an hour early, by her choice, so she could take Devohn to school. She didn't want her to ride the school bus
and Mama was sick most of the time. She also got up earlier, so she could sing and play the piano, which she
loved to do. She was active in UIL in choir in high school. Her favorite place to sing was Hillside Baptist
Church at Alvarado, Texas. After her senior year in high school, she was accepted into the Texas Baptist All
State Youth Choir, that went on a mission trip to Mexico City. She was in a select group of that choir, called,
"Living Song", that participated a week longer than the larger choir. Beverley and her fiance, Steve, were
dedicated Christians, who tried to make every part of their life "God Centered". When Beverley and Steve
were coming back from picking up their wedding rings that had been sized, they were both killed in an auto
accident. Beverley was wearing her engagement ring for the first time. Before leaving, Beverley told her
mother that she wanted to raise green beans and red-headed babies. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and
lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths
